What Happens During A Design Consultation?

Max |

Designing a new kitchen is an exciting journey, but before any sketches, samples, or layouts appear, it all starts with a conversation. At Neu Kitchens, our design consultations are thoughtful, personal, and a little different from what you might have experienced elsewhere. Here is what really happens during that first meeting.

We Start With Questions. Lots of Them

A kitchen is the heart of the home, and no two homes are alike. To design a space that truly fits your life, we begin by getting to know you. That means asking questions, not just about cabinets and colours, but about you. We will chat about:

  • Your project — What stage you are at, what you are hoping to achieve, and what brought you to us.

  • Your household — Who lives in the home? How do they use the space?

  • Lifestyle and habits — Do you love to cook? Entertain? Prefer quiet mornings with coffee?

  • Even your pets — Because they are part of the family, too, and their routines matter in the flow of a kitchen.

  • Your ideas so far — Whether you have a Pinterest board bursting with inspiration or just a feeling about what you like, we want to hear it.

These details help us create a kitchen that is not just beautiful — it’s functional, intuitive, and tailor-made for the way you live.

Many kitchen designers will ask straightforward, surface-level questions: Do you want a shaker kitchen? Do you prefer handleless cabinets? At Neu Kitchens, we take a more holistic approach.  Instead of starting with labels or styles, we’ll ask you something a bit deeper: “What do you want your kitchen to feel like?”

This is where the magic happens. We encourage you to use adjectives. Calming, social, warm, minimalist, family-friendly, luxurious. Whatever resonates with you. These descriptive clues help us understand not just how your kitchen should look, but how it should behave and experience as part of your daily life.

Designing the Experience, Not Just the Space

By focusing on feeling rather than trends, we build a clearer picture of your ideal atmosphere. Is it a bustling hub where everyone gathers? A serene retreat for peaceful cooking? A sleek, modern space with a sense of flow?

Your answers guide the direction of materials, layout, lighting, textures, colours, and ergonomics. It’s a richer, more intuitive way of designing. One that ensures your finished kitchen feels like it grew naturally from your home and your lifestyle.

Every question we ask is in service of one essential goal: to create a kitchen that feels right for you. The consultation is the first chapter of that story. A relaxed, open conversation where we listen closely and begin imagining the possibilities together.

At Neu Kitchens, we don Not just design kitchens. We design experiences. And it all begins with understanding who you are and how you want to live.
